ISEPEP5 logo. Design by Heath MacMillan.

This week ISEPEP5 was hosted by Dr. Brent Sinclair in London, Ontario. This was my first ISEPEP meeting, and I helped organize the meeting (whenever possible while writing a thesis!) and designed the meeting logo (left).

We heard some awesome plenary talks by Dr. Dave Denlinger (Ohio State University) on how insects enter and break diapause, and Dr. Allison McDonald  (Wilfrid Laurier University) on her alternative oxidase adventures.

ISEPEP6 will be hosted by Jesper Sorensen and Johannes Overgaard at Aarhus University. I guess I will find myself designing another logo soon!

On August 9th 2013, I successfully defended my PhD thesis. Thanks to Dr. Brent Sinclair and Dr. Jim Staples for their support and encouragement during my time in the PhD program.

Exciting times are in the pipeline as I head off to Aarhus University in Denmark to start a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Johannes Overgaard in September!

Brent, Heath and Jim celebrate on August 9th 2013.

Congratulations to Sarah Lake on her first publication! Sarah did her honours thesis in the Sinclair lab where she examined the effects of temperature on metabolic rate in the fall field cricket (Gryllus pennsylvanicus) using three different methods of modifying temperature. I was happy to be a part of it.
